Wow. I graduated med school in 1984. I can’t even begin to say how much these routines capture so much of the feelings of becoming a doctor, anticipation, fear, exhilaration, acquiring new powers, it’s all there. I listen to this again and again. Thank you talented colleagues.

Kudos on being willing to do a job that is sometimes thankless and for taking on a load of debt to do that. Bless you all and don't quit! Just remember to really listen to what your patient is saying to you and involve them in the process of care --- it really is a joint effort. Don't get blase about your job.

Sometimes, I think that I did the wrong thing by turning away from my medical ambitions when I was still an early teen, but then again, I talk to a lot of doctors and at least half of them say I made the right decision because of their experience in the field. I think that’s very telling, and if I decide to actually go back and complete my studies, it’s probably going to be for missionary work…. maybe aboard one of those surgery ships.

This video came out on my 2nd year of university and I have been coming back to it every 2-3 years for the last 9 years. Having just became an Ortho and Trauma surgeon I cannot express well enough how much strenght and motivation videos like this one gave me throughout all these years. To all the young ones aspiring to pursue a medical career; dont give up, you are going to make it and you are going to feel so proud. It is not going to be easy but it is worth it.
